Nikki Baker | March Blog
Wow what a month it has been! This is my first blog for B&W since being chosen as the showjumping
ambassador! It's been a very busy month, starting off with a trip to the B&W Equine Hospital in Breadstone to pick up our clothing and numnahs and we were lucky enough to be shown round the hospital! The next day I was asked to do an interview and photo shoot with the Chew Valley Gazette which was very exciting and I got to tell them all about B&W and wear my new lovely ambassador coat. I also got some great photos of Willy and Bella.
The horses are feeling and going great.... although I never get too excited it always seems as quick as your up your back down.
Using some of my sponsorship money I travelled 2 hours for a lesson with Jay Halim, I learnt so much on Willy, so was worth the long trip for sure! It's been a good month with results, Bella has picked up a 2nd and 3rd in 1.05m Opens and Willy has been consistent with 2nds and 3rds in a 1.20m Opens, double clears in 1.30m Opens! I've taken a new ride Arkrite to his first British Showjumping show and jumped a lovely double clear at Mendip Plains, he went straight in the British Novice and didn’t bat an eyelid so smiles all round! I’m looking forward to bringing him on this year. I've also gained a new competition livery, Casey, with thanks to B&W. All in all, a very busy month and looking forward to the lighter nights!
I’m very excited about new ride Casey, she couldn't be more like my old horse Polly if she tried! She's ginger.... she's just as big (maybe slightly bigger) ... as temperamental (people who know Polly will understand) ... and the way she felt jumping at home, has just as good a jump! Nothing will ever replace Polls but I swear she's helping me find some lovely horses.
We also had Mother’s Day and my mum’s birthday in March. Mum is such an important part of my team, she’s chauffer, groom, nanny, top grandma for Harry and anything else I need! She’s a really special lady and inspires me to be the best mum possible for Harry. She’s so supportive and behind me every step of the way so I treated her to lunch in the sunshine and prosseco – not a horse in sight! I’m so lucky to have such a great family around me helping me to achieve my dreams.
Harry has had a busy month too with a new guinea pig, chicken hutch and his very own Thomas the Tank Engine themed bedroom! After 20 months of no sleep, the first night in his new room and he didn’t make a peep which is good news as I’m going to need all my energy for my upcoming show schedule!
I'm sat doing my county show entries at the moment, and I'm very much looking forward to this year, and with the backing of B&W it makes everything seem worth it! Good luck to every one for the next few weeks, Hope you all have a great month!
