Lauren Dallison - Eventing

November and December have been incredibly quiet on the riding front, as Donald has been on holiday, and light work. We had a few lessons before his break, working on getting a better canter and keeping him straight through his body. This showed in our final two competitions before his holiday, where we had our first Show jumping win!  He produced a fab clear with a few  tight jump off turns which definitely reminded me of my love of show jumping, and took me back to my pony days! At our school show jumping competition, he produced two very good rounds, just let down by me after a tumble in the warm up. However, he tried his heart out for me and helped the team to 5th and 3rd.

He thoroughly enjoyed his holiday and after a physio session he came slowly back into work. He definitely felt better for his time off, as my spurs continued to collect dust throughout his first few weeks of schooling!  He is now settling back into work nicely, and despite a few things that need to be worked out (the main thing being bitting) he is starting to produce some really smart work. At our first competition back, he was super- for the first time competing in a hackamore, and only our second time jumping in it! He jumped a super clear- the only one in the team and he felt very happy to be out jumping again.

For January we are continuing with his fitness programme, some JAS, Show Jumping, Dressage and Eventers Challenge in preparation for the start of the 2018 eventing season!

Until next time,
