Frozen Equine Semen Storage Facility

The B&W storage facility at Willesley holds a huge number of frozen semen doses from a very wide variety of stallions. The semen has largely been collected over the last 30 years by West Kington Stallion Centre who have now trusted B&W with its ongoing storage and distribution. It is stored on behalf of owners of current competition stallions, native breeds and rare breeds and stallions that are sadly no longer with us.

The semen store is run and managed by the B&W stud vet team who have many years’ experience in freezing, handling and storing frozen semen. Semen is held in state-of-the-art storage tanks. Liquid nitrogen levels are continually monitored. Security is a priority and includes 24 hour CCTV surveillance. All semen is insured at a replacement value per dose. Annual DEFRA approval of the semen store allows eligible semen to be exported worldwide.

We can organise UK or international distribution of frozen semen doses at an owner’s request. UK distribution can be organised at short notice. International distribution needs advance planning and strict adherence to health test protocols laid down by the importing country. We have a network of international agents very familiar with movement logistics. B&W have 15 dry shippers available for semen distribution.

STORAGE (Charged per Stallion)

1-20 doses inclusive £7.80 per month (flat fee) + VAT

21-50 doses £0.39 per dose/per month + VAT

51 doses & above £0.25 per dose/per month + VAT

Note all charges are per insemination dose. One insemination dose comprises of a stated number of straws (e.g. 3-8 straws) dependent on semen quality. All storage charges will be invoiced quarterly in arrears. Your account must be up to date before any semen can be released.

Please note, it is only possible to deliver on Sunday or Monday by same day courier. Alternatively you can arrange to collect in person.

Please call for a quotation. All prices quoted include hire and return of transport flask, processing of required health papers, international handling and shipping by our preferred carrier.

Shipper Hire

Prices include admin, handling and packing of semen as necessary. This is for movement of semen stored at WKS where the client wishes to collect the shipper. Please note that we do not offer empty flask hire for movement of 3rd party semen.

Before semen can be distributed, we require email confirmation from the stallion owner or agent stating how many doses are to be released and giving full dispatch details (name, address, contact telephone number & email). Orders must be placed by 12 noon the working day BEFORE dispatch is required.
