Kelly completed a rotational internship at B&W before working for their busy Cardiff practice. Kelly then took a position as sole veterinarian on a busy quarter horse stud in Australia. Daily work involved AI with both fresh and frozen semen, embryo transfer and collecting, processing and evaluating semen. Kelly returned to the Willesley Clinic in Spring 2014 as part of the stud team. In the spring of 2018, she gained the Advanced Veterinary Practice Certificate in Equine Stud Medicine.
Chris Shepherd BVSc MRCVS
Clinical Director, Willesley
Chris is Clinical Director at the B&W Willesley site at which he has been based for the last 32 years. He has been instrumental in the development of the stud practice in that time. His clinical interests include mare and stallion fertility in both Thoroughbreds and Sport horses. He has been very much involved with the development of AI in the UK over the years and has represented both BEVA and DEFRA in that capacity.
Anna Mitchell BVM&S DACT MRCVS
Anna completed an Internship at the B&W Equine Hospital in 2014 before carrying out a medicine fellowship in Kentucky and completing a couple of stud seasons in Australia. Anna then went on to complete a Theriogenology residency at Cornell University, where she remained as a clinical instructor for a while afterwards. Anna has a particular interest in problem mares, stallion sub-fertility and assisted reproductive techniques including embryo transfer, embryo freezing and ovum pick up/ICSI. In her spare time, Anna enjoys running, skiing and riding and has a keen interest in both flat and jump racing.
Tessa Hamer BVSc CertAVP(ESM) MRCVS
Tessa graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2013 and commenced an 18 month internship at Scone Equine Hospital in Australia. This was followed by three years in ambulatory equine practice in Sussex, where she developed an interest in all areas of equine practice, especially stud medicine and artificial insemination.
Tessa returned to Scone in 2018 for the busy thoroughbred stud season, coming home to the UK to work on the stud team at Newmarket Equine Hospital in 2019 & completing a stud season in the Cotswolds in 2020 before joining B&W Equine Vets.
Jess has been at Willesley since March 2019, she is involved with all aspects of running the stud and caring for visiting mares and stallions. Jess has grown up with horses and has a working farm at home which is where she spends most of her time. During her quieter periods on the stud here at Willesley she enjoys riding her own 3 horses and hunting.
