B&W is proud to be working alongside the University of Bristol and Langford Vets in hosting final year students for their equine clinical rotations. We have hosted students for a number of years as part of this scheme and from mid-2026 the arrangement will expand so that all final students will attend the B&W Langford Clinic throughout their rotation. As well as allowing us to pass our knowledge on to motivate a new generation of vets, their knowledge of current research and thoughtful questions inspire us to foster our own critical thinking.
Alongside revising their horse-handling techniques, students will expand their practical and theoretical knowledge by observing cases, actively participating in clinical discussions and performing carefully supervised clinical skills where appropriate. They will complete their 'MiniCEX' examinations - a series of skills in which students must demonstrate competency in order to pass their final year. Some examples of these include clinical examinations, taking blood/giving medication, diagnostic imaging acquisition and interpreting test results.
Student involvement in consultations is invaluable to their development as vets but their level of involvement will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have any questions about students accompanying our vets, please contact your local B&W branch.
